| March 11th, 2010 by Joe It took a while for anabolic steroids to become a controlled substance by law but it has always been illegal to sell them on the black market. Everyone involved with buying, selling or moving anabolic steroids could get penalized if caught. These consequences were present even before they were classified as a controlled substance with the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988. Anabolic steroids started to show up in larger use in the mid 1980s. This is what prompted law enforcement to take notice of the seeming epidemic. It became a favorite with many high school athletes. The FDA, DEA and the Medical field were against adding steroids to the controlled substance list because they didn’t see them as being addictive. Congress still felt that steroid use was dangerous. In November 1990 the Anabolic Steroids Control Act became law. With the signing of the Omnibus Crime Control Bill by President Bush. It put steroids in with Schedule III class drugs such as amphetamines, methampetamines, opium and morphine. So one can look at the Schedule III laws and know that it applies to steroids. If one is simple caught possessing the drug than they can get put in prison for one year and/or at a minimum have a 1000.00 fine. If caught again could get up two years prison sentence and 2500.00 fine. Third time with a Schedule III drug in possession can get one 3 years in prison and 5000.00 fine. It is an even bigger problem if one is caught selling steroids or possessing them with an intent to sell them. One stands to get 5 years in prison with 2 year parole and/or a 250,000.00 fine. IF caught twice one is looking at up to 10 years prison time and 4 years parole with possibility of increased fines. Steroids will increase muscle strength and muscle mass in faster time compared to following a supervised regimented weight training program. The biological effect is to stimulate protein synthesis; to heal muscles faster and more effectively. People who are slow to reach puberty are often prescribed steroids. They’re also prescribed for patients with certain types of breast cancer, blood disorders and other diseases that will result in a loss of muscle mass, like HIV/AIDS. Some athletes use steroids to improve upon their performance, especially in sports that required a burst of power and strength, such as track and field, football and weight lifting; steroids increase motivation, and reduce fatigue. Steroids are not for professional athletes only, a minority of men and women will use steroids to improve upon their appearance, especially young men who are skinny or lean; when using steroids while under supervised training and while eating well, these young men will increase their strength and muscle mass exponentially. Men that use steroid to change the way they look, feel better about themselves and feel they have more sex-appeal to the opposite sex. Women, will begin using anabolic steroids if they have a condition such as muscle dysmorphia, which is a disorder where the female feels she is not muscular enough. Another reason for females wanting to ‘bulk’ up is a form of protection. In a study by the National Institute of Drug abuse (NIDA), says twice as many women weightlifters who use steroids, have been have been physically abused by men or have been raped, compared to those women who have not been abused or raped. Steroids use for athletes and non-athletes alike is a dream of instant gratification; it’s thought of as an opportunity to get stronger, lose body fat and gain muscle mass within 5 to 6 weeks minimum. Using steroids motivates one to workout more consistently and with enthusiasm because of the great results. Websites, tv shows, and health clubs all have ways to suggest how you might find the exercise routine that’s right for you. Although this is certainly a worthy search, you might be wondering just why is physical fitness so important anyway? We all know too well the benefits of looking good, and even though most of these are reserved for people who are not only in shape, but also under 25, there is a lot of appeal in being physically attractive. There are many good reasons that are perhaps all too obvious about being attractive to others, but this is actually very important for your own sense of self. Self-image can’t be constructed on physical traits alone, and depends on much deeper kinds of beauty, but it certainly helps when you’re not startled by what you see in the mirror first thing in the morning. Physical fitness helps in this, because it demonstrates to you that you actually do have control over your body, and when you don’t like everything you see, you can work on it to improve it. This also feeds right into how you feel. Physical fitness helps self-image in other ways, too, and the most essential of these are related to the increased sense of well-being that exercise causes. It does increase energy, stamina, and has an enormously positive impact on mood. It’s not simply the benefit of a healthy body, but exercise seems to cause physical changes in the brain that make us more able to process dark days, and see the sunny side of the street. Of course, the most apparent benefit is health, where exercise helps to cut down risks of heart disease, stress, and many other problems. Living a long and healthy life is certainly its own reward, and physical fitness is the path. Tom Venuto’s Burn The Fat Feed the Muscle How To Build Muscle and Gain Weight Fast – Top Mass Building System March 9th, 2010 by Joe One hundred and seventy-eight years ago, in 1832, Michel Eugene Chevreul, a French chemist, discovered a nitrogenous organic acid that was a part of skeletal muscles. He named the compound after the Greek word for flesh, creatine. Creatine occurs naturally and helps provide energy to the muscles. In humans, the substance is derived from amino acids in the liver and kidney, and blood transports the compound to the muscles. Ninety-five percent of the total creatine used by the body is contained in skeletal muscle; the remaining five percent may be found in either the heart or the brain. Creatine is not considered an an essential nutrient because the human body manufactures it from glycine and L-arginine and L-methionine. The primary source of the compound, though comes largely from fresh meat. Vegetarians, in order to raise their muscle creatine to normal levels, may require supplements. Athletes and bodybuilders use creatine supplements in order to gain muscle mass. There are a few cautions regarding creatine use; for example, there’s a warning against consumption by people with some allergies. There are also side effects that include stomach discomfort, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and even nausea. For a short time, there was a concern that creatine supplements might affect one’s ability to tolerate heat and the status of the body’s hydration. However, more recent studies have not supported this concern. There was a concern, too, about kidney damage from creatine; however, there’s less of a concern currently, even though some have reported kidney damage (interstitial nephritis, for instance). As a precaution, anyone with kidney disease shouldn’t use creatine supplements. It’s also theorized that creatine may alter insulin activities, and therefore, if a person has hypoglycemia or diabetes, or generally takes supplements that might affect the blood sugar levels, then creatine supplements are not recommended. Research over the past ten years suggests that creatine supplementation, orally, at about five to twenty g/day will be safe, and most likely, free of any bad side effects, while at the same time, improve the muscles’ response to exercise. Tom Venuto’s Burn The Fat Feed the Muscle How To Build Muscle and Gain Weight Fast – Top Mass Building System March 9th, 2010 by Joe Many people have had questions regarding the involvement of the United States Congress, in the hearings surrounding Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee. Clemens is accused of allegedly using steroids to enhance his performance in baseball. And McNamee, his personal trainer, has been labeled a “drug dealer”. Congress has gotten involved due to that fact that it is not just about the steroids, it is about the fact that both men have given differenttestimonies in court. This is a federal drug case, and depending on which man is not telling the truth, that man could get charged with committing fraud by lying to a grand jury while under oath. One of the men is not telling the whole truth, and Congress has stepped in to find out which one that is. The problem now however, is that members of the Congress are split, some of them believing Clemens, while other members believeMcNammee . This is looking like a case that may have to be turned over to the Justice Department. Their stories differ not in small ways such as times of phone calls or missed meetings. They contradict in a very large way. Clemens states that McNamee injected him with the steroids without his knowledge, while McNamee testified that he did no such thing. If it is McNamee who is lying, he has committed an unethical act, not only in the eyes of what is legal in the world of baseball, but is unforgivable in the eyes of someone he called his friend. If Clemens is lying, he too is guilty of the same two crimes of ethics. Both men are leaving each other out in the wind, as well as smearing the names and reputations of each other. This is a time when baseball teams are just wanting it to be about the game, and everyone is ready for a decision to be reached as quickly as possible. Tom Venuto’s Burn The Fat Feed the Muscle How To Build Muscle and Gain Weight Fast – Top Mass Building System March 8th, 2010 by Joe In recent decades the biggest controversial aspect of the professional sport of baseball has become which players have used steroids in developing their physique and skill. The days of controversial lifestyle choices like heavy drinking and gambling have given way to illegal injections and pills that bulk up bodies but are argued to give unfair advantages, not to mention the potential health risks involved. These days everyone is asking who has ingested steroids. The officials are asking it as well as the fans and it is a hotter question than who is sleeping with whom and who is getting into legal trouble. In fact, legal trouble and relationship issues are just considered to be par for the course today. It’s much more concerning who is using steroids and perhaps this is for an important reason. Steroids are believed to have an actual affect on the game, while life style choices circumstances have more of a potential or peripheral affect and are not believed to directly contribute to the benefit of certain players over others. In fact, previous controversies tended to have a negative affect on a player’s game and or career, while steroids are credited with enhancing one’s performance. So, the question remains, who is using or has used steroids? Well, before answering, or attempting to answer that question, another one should be presented, which is does the player have to know that they are using steroids to be punished for it? This is actually more important and a real question than it may sound. Part of the accusation controversy is not only are they using, but do they know that they are? Certain players, such as Barry Bonds to use an extremely famous example, have been given creams for various elements. Bonds’ cream was for his elbow and was potentially an arthritis treatment. However, the cream itself contains steroids and therefore any player can end up using them and not be aware of it. Armando Rios is another player who is allegedly affected by the steroid cream. Other players who have admitted purposely using steroids include Jeremy Giambi, while some players have been accused by others. Tom Venuto’s Burn The Fat Feed the Muscle How To Build Muscle and Gain Weight Fast – Top Mass Building System March 8th, 2010 by Joe Steroids have a bad reputation, but have some legitimate medical uses. One of these uses is to stimulate bone marrow production in order to help fight off hypoplastic anemias (a marked decrease in the red blood flow count) due to leukemia and kidney failure. When these blood cells start disappearing a person feels tired and fatigued more easily. Steroids function by acting as a hormone that marks the start order to make more red blood cells, convincing the body to start to make these again. The easiest hormone for steroids to mimic and therefore the condition of this type most commonly treated with steroids is an anemia in which the bone marrow has stopped producing enough cells to replenish red blood cells naturally. Because of the sudden growth in bone marrow caused by steroids many people believe that steroids induce bone cancer. This is not true and often when the person is no longer taking steroids the production of bone marrow will not only decrease back to where it was before, but may even drop lower than before if not supplemented by another drug as the body continues to overcompensate for the work the steroids were doing. Many studies have been done, showing that while steroids can have many negative effects if someone uses them without just cause, for those truly in need it can be a life saving prescription. It has even been shown to help people with various cancers and aids, preventing them from wasting away, stimulating appetite and muscle growth. There are many other uses for steroids, but only on a doctors orders. It is estimated that between one and three million people living in the United States of America, or nearly one percent of the population, has misused steroids at some point in their lives. Although it will not produce bone cancer it can produce elevated blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The increased testosterone levels can also lead to reduced sexual functionality and infertility. When misused it also has a high probability of causing liver damage as the effects to the body are not likely to be regulated. Tom Venuto’s Burn The Fat Feed the Muscle How To Build Muscle and Gain Weight Fast – Top Mass Building System March 5th, 2010 by Joe Body building is frequently considered to be a physical oriented art form and in itself has become an esthetic sport. Meanwhile, bodybuilding itself is also a major part of other sports and creating the ideal athletic body is sometimes as important as the sports skills themselves. Well, instead of arguing for a hierarchy, it can just be accepted that they are interdependent. With this in mind, it is important to realize that there are at least two perspectives that are associated with bodybuilding. The first one looks at the act itself as a sport and sometimes art genre and the second one is its importance to various other sports. Therefore deciding how to build your own body and increase bulk and muscle mass in the appropriate places can be dependent on the reason you have for doing so. Meanwhile, supplements for bodybuilding can be pretty expensive and deciding which ones to take and in what amounts is as much an economic consideration as it is a physical development one. Finding the balance between training and supplements is a key to success and maintaining optimal health throughout the process. The usage of supplements begins with an understanding of the types and varieties that are available. Protein powders are generally recommended and help to ensure that you consume the necessary extra protein required to build muscle. They also ensure you are using complete proteins which is extremely important. Glutamine is important for those involved in hard core workouts and helps the body to stay hydrated and may also increase the immune system. Vitamin supplements help to ensure that you are receiving all the important and necessary nutrients during diet changes and also changes in needs that occurs during periods of extreme workouts. They also help to maintain your overall health and assist in healing torn tissue and overworked muscles. There are numerous other supplements and it is important to research which ones will be most important to your own program. Tom Venuto’s Burn The Fat Feed the Muscle How To Build Muscle and Gain Weight Fast – Top Mass Building System March 4th, 2010 by Joe Steroids are extremely powerful and a substance that can wreak havoc on the human body if misused. Bodybuilders and athletes have been taking anabolic steroids since the 60’s. Many bobybuilders will go to excess doses of steroids in order to compete, because steroids increase muscle hardness, improve mass, strength and endurance. While it’s not common to suffer critical of life-threatening symptoms, steroids cause potentially harmful side-effects and some are irreversible. Both genders will experience increase in acne on the face, the chest and the back. The anabolic steroid can cause behavioral changes such as increased irritability and aggression, to the extent that some steroid abusers increased aggression has caused them to rob banks, get into fights and even kill. Other side-effects include increased energy, mood swings, euphoria, sexual arousal, forgetfulness, distractions, and confusion. Bad side-effects on the cardiovascular system has led to heart attacks, and with bodybuilders younger than 30, have developed enlargement of the heart’s left ventricle. Their blood chemistry is changed by the steroids causing blood clots leading to disruption of the blood flow to the heart, damaging the heart muscle. With prolong use of steroids bodybuilders will develop high levels of cholesterol, which will clog the arteries and lead to serious heart issues. Teenagers using anabolic steroids are especially in danger; the steroids will interfere with the normal growth hormones of the body, and will lead to a premature development of the epiphyses, which leads to stunted growth. It doesn’t matter how the steroid is taken, orally, by patch or injection, it still has to pass through the liver, which puts a significant amount of strain on the liver and causes a great deal of damage and create tumors that will lead to internal bleeding. Steroids taken in high doses will lead to the development of peliosis hepatitis, jaundice and cancer. Steroids taken by injection is easier on the liver, but only easier. Steroids taken orally, can cause stomach distention, chronic constipation, and lots of gas, and that last effect is not pretty if the bodybuilder wants to keep their friends. Depression is only aggravated with the use of steroids and for men, they will experience a short-term increase in their sex drive, but it’s then followed by a suppression of testosterone, which will shrink the testes. It will lower the sperm count and make them infertile and well as develop gynecomastia. For women, there is a dangerous irreversible side-effect of masculinization. If a bodybuilder stops abusing steroids, they will be hit with extreme depression, apathy, fatigue and withdrawal symptoms almost the same as a drug user. Basically, bodybuilders who abuse steroids will have many serious side-effects causing bodily issues that will lead to disabling the body instead of helping the body. Tom Venuto’s Burn The Fat Feed the Muscle How To Build Muscle and Gain Weight Fast – Top Mass Building System March 2nd, 2010 by Joe There has been an extensive growth in the use of vitamins, herbal products and supplement (generally have the quality of having a positive effect with certain health conditions), which physicians need to vigilantly stay aware of when prescribing medication to their patients and ask their patients if they are taking any supplements. For example, Ginkgo Biloba, fish oil and vitamin E are all blood thinners, which will interfere with any prescription blood thinners and Vitamin C will worsen an iron storage disorder called hemochromatosis. People with chronic health conditions should always get advice from their doctor before using any vitamins or dietary supplements, especially if they are on a variety of medications. People who have the conditions such as diabetes, chronic blood clotting, cancer, liver and thyroid issues, heart disease, and high blood pressure need to discuss taking any supplements or vitamins with their doctors first. If you have specific questions about medications not to take together, your best resource is your pharmacist. Taking the recommended dose of a vitamin shouldn’t interfere with any over-the-counter (OTC) medications like ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If your supplement is yogurt, milk or cheese, these food products can interfere with the absorption of antibiotics. If you are juicing, grapefruit inhibits enzymes in the intestine that normally break down certain medications to allow more of the medication to enter into the blood stream. Vitamin K, which can be taken in pill form, or found in kale, broccoli, and spinach decreases the effectiveness of the medication preventing blood clotting. So, when purchasing vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements, read the labels carefully to determine the ingredients, the proper dosage and make sure you have the right conditions the supplement is meant for. Remember, the best way to ensure you are getting the right amount of vitamins and minerals is through a healthy diet.
